Technical Info:

The Corbin Emhart system was sold and promoted by Corbin lock from 1978 until 2004 when it was moved into Legacy status. The locks and keys are still made to support the systems currently in use today.

All keys are 6 pin using depths 2 to 6 and are exclusively keyed on Key System 70

The stock keyway for Corbin Emhart was 70, which is the reverse of keyway 60, however it was available on many keyways. The tag in the picture has a number and letters. The number indicated the keyway and the letters are a blind key bitting code.

These are the common Corbin Emhart keyways that were used:

292 = 70 Stock keyway 1978 until 1993.
243 = 60
230 = A1
231 = A2
234 = B1
235 = B2
238 = C1
239 = C2
241 = D1
242 = D2

The keys are cut on angles Left and Right and were numbered 1 = R and 2 = L Centre cuts were not used except in extensive master key systems.

The key bittings are written in 3 different ways depending on when the codes were generated:

For factory HAND WRITTEN key systems the bitting codes would be written as follows
41 22 52 41 62 31 with the first number being the cut and the second number being the angle

For early factory COMPUTER generated key systems the bitting codes would be printed as follows:
4(1) 2(2) 5(2) 4(1) 6(2) 3(1)

For later factory COMPUTER generated key systems the bitting codes would be printed as follows:
4R 2L 5L 4R 6L 3R

The original keys used from 1978 until 1986, being the one on the left in the picture, were made from regular nickle silver, since 1986 the key blanks have a smaller top and are made of a VERY HARD nickle silver and can only be cut on key machines using carbide cutters. The key blank on the right hand side is the current blank available.

We cut our keys on the factory original key blanks.
